Central UMC is absolutely committed to serving members of our congregation, citizens in our community, and members of the body of Christ around the world. We invite all our members to serve our local, regional, and global community through our financial support, gifts of talents, and time. In 2008, we gave direct financial assistance of $225,351 for missions. We support the connectional ministries of The United Methodist Church enthusiastically. Internationally, we contribute financially and with leadership Africa University, the Episcopal Fund, the Ministerial Education Fund, and support of our 13 global agencies. We support the other 62 congregations in Cabarrus and Rowan counties, including support of our District Superintendent, the District Mission Fund, and Hispanic ministries. We are a leading contributor of money and people to our United Methodist brothers and sisters. Our Western North Carolina Annual Conference involves 1100 congregations in the 44 western counties in North Carolina. We support conference benevolences, retirees, higher education scholarships, human services, and Aldersgate Retirement community. These United Methodists support 4 colleges, 3 retirement communities, and a children’s home. Locally, we give 50% of our missions monies to at least 30 local groups from Cooperative Christian Ministry, Salvation Army, Habitat for Humanity, Hospice, Meals on Wheels, and Girl Scouts. Globally, we also support missionaries in Bolivia, Costa Rica, Pakistan, in rural Kentucky, and more. We support the annual CROP Walk against hunger, Bread for the World, Heifer Project, and for six years a mission project with Navajo in New Mexico with mission work teams. Each year we have at least 2 mission work teams. . |
