Bill Gouge is from Burnsville, North Carolina. He took his first job as a musician at age twelve when he became the organist for the First Presbyterian Church in Burnsville. He attended Queens College on a music scholarship, graduated with a degree in Piano Performance and was the winner of the Queens College Performance Award. He was a North Carolina Visiting Artist from 1985-1989 and served on the NC Visiting Artist Advisory Board. He ran an after school music program at Piedmont Courts Housing Project for Community School of the Arts for over ten years. He was Community School of the Arts teacher of the year in 1999. He was an accompanist and music director for Opera Carolina's touring company for many years and was the accompanist for the Opera Carolina Chorus.  He has accompanied One Voice, Carolina Voices, the Festival Singers, Renaissance, Vox and since 1998 has been the principal accompanist for the Charlotte Children's Choir. With the Children's Choir he as performed at Spoleto, for the American Choral Director's Association, in Notre Dame Cathedral, Carnegie Hall and at St. Patrick's Cathedral n New York. This year (2009) Bill will tour Italy with the Children's Choir. He has made television appearances and had performances broadcast on National Public Radio. Bill has been a part of the Music Ministry at Central for over 25 years, first joining the staff as organist in 1982.  He loves being a part of a church where music is valued not only for its intrinsic beauty but also for its healing power and spiritual benefits.
