Koinonia
· Our group includes people of all walks of life (mid-twenties to mid-forties) Our members include singles, young families, and couples without kids. We welcome anyone with an open mind and open heart willing to share in Christ’s teachings and be a model of Christian living.
· Group Mission: We are living sacrifices to Christ. Through committed action, we develop spiritual formation of our members; provide service to our communities through missions, and building lasting friendships through fellowship.
· Central Methodist Church offers continual guidance on spiritual formation, service and mission opportunities, and means for us to connect with Christ and each other. Weekly activities include Bible study, small-group book discussions, and learning through sharing.
· Our members commit to be living examples of Christ’s teachings and to serve selflessly with our time and talent within our communities. Our members are involved in ongoing church activities, as well as efforts to improve the local community.
· Group Activities: Weekly Sunday school at 9:45 am offering opportunities for spiritual formation through Bible study, book discussions, and personal interaction.
Regular service projects focused on missions that speak to the character and goals of the group.
Regular fellowship events to strengthen our relationships and our faith.
· What is Koinonia? Pronounced Coy – no – knee - ah
Koinonia emphasizes sharing, relationships, and community. In English, it translates to communion by intimate participation, an idealized state of fellowship and community.
Living Values Class
· Living Values Sunday School class is a small group of singles and couples of all ages who engage in thoughtful and spirited discussions of religious and spiritual issues related to living a Christian life.
· We have done book discussions on books such as Mitch Albom’s Have a Little Faith and William Young’s The Shack as well as studies such as Chip Ingram’s (Living on the Edge) series on being an “R12 (Romans 12) Christian,” and “God as He Longs for you to See Him.”
· Cris Davis and others rotate teaching the class
Christian Fellowship Class
· Members include a variety of ages, both couples and singles
· -Class is mission-minded and supports many local and world agencies as well as helping with some individual needs that are brought to their attention.
· -Class understands God's call to serve others.
· -Steve Cude leads the class in participatory format; class selects curriculum which is often video based, thought provoking, Biblically based but timely topics. Lively light hearted discussions often centering aroung "real" life keep the members engaged and stimulated. Steve says, "we get to Jerusalem through Concord."
· -On our chalk board that keeps us in touch with current projects and our prayer list is what we have been using as our call to action. "It's up to US to be the change" resounds as the true spirit of this class.
· Ann Rogers serves as secretary and Fran Foley is the treasurer.
· Margaret Dabbs serves as Class President.
Lester D. Coltrane, Jr. Class
· Organized in 1924 as a men’s class—men of all ages are welcome
· Many members are second generation members of the class
· Class prays together, sings together, supports one another (and enjoys ribbing one another from time to time! J)
· Leroy Deabler, Jeff Gallup, and others lead the class in discussion
· Leon Lackey serves as Class President
New Beginnings Class
· Consists largely of couples with school-aged children, but all are welcome
· Thought-provoking curriculum and energetic class
· Emphasis is on strong relationships with one another and serving church and community
· We are always welcoming new members
· Perry and Miriam Saunders teach and lead the class
Jessie Boger Class
· Organized in 1944 as a class for young women left at home during WWII. When the war was over, women invited their husbands to the class. Since that time, the class has included men and women
· Three excellent teachers: John Boger, Ava Plott, and Iris Elliott
· Class studies Adult Bible Studies series of the United Methodist Church
· Class involved in missions, such as supporting a child in Central America and contributing to the Salvation Army, CVAN, and Community Free Clinic
· Frances Long serves as Class President
Ellen Pemberton Class
· Class started by Mrs. Ellen Pemberton
· Welcome to all women
· Awards the Hildreth Jordan Scholarship for students each year to outstanding students; the scholarship is in honor of their teacher of nearly 30 years, Hildreth Jordan
· The class members enjoy each others’ company and are often seen having lunch or coffee together
· Class studies the Adult Bible Studies series
· Class teachers are Donna Johnson and Carolyn Miller
· Jean Johnson serves as Class President
